Insurance FAQs

Questions Regarding Soccer Accident.

What type of policy is the Soccer Accident Insurance (SAI)?

It is a Full Excess Policy and all claims will be paid on a Usual & Customary basis paying medical costs up to $50,000 maximum per claim to an insured person for accidental bodily injuries occurred as a direct result of participation in a covered activity.

What does Full Excess mean?

Full Excess means you must submit your medical bills to any other applicable health care plan you have in force, prior to making a claim under this policy.  If your medical coverage is under an HMO or similar plan, you must follow their rules for obtaining benefits; otherwise no benefits will be paid under this policy.  See the SAI brochure for more information.  It is available on this web site under AYSO Resources, then Forms & Documents, and finally Insurance forms.

What is Usual & Customary?

Usual & Customary means claims will be paid for medical fees and services that do not exceed those generally charged for similar Medical Care in your area.

Is there a deductible required?

Yes, there is a $200 deductible.  The AYSO policy would consider claims applied to the another policy's deductible in accordance with all policy provisions after applying the $200 deductible to the first $200 of allowed expenses under the other policy.  AYSO’s policy is a Full Excess, pays Usual & Customary and will not always reimburse in full as there are plan limitations.  It is not a Flex Plan but evaluates all claims in accordance with policy provisions.

What if I have no other insurance?

What happens if I don't file within 90 days as recommended?

You run the risk of having your claim denied. If you file it after 120 days (6 months) the claim will be denied but you can file an appeal.

How quickly after an injury should I see a doctor?

The first medical expense must be incurred within 60 days of the covered accident/injury.

Why do I need to put an AYSO ID # on my claim form before filing?

Because the claims processing agent must validate the player or volunteer is properly registered in the eAYSO membership system before they can pay the claim.

Why is it important to validate the AYSO ID # before processing the claim?

Because we don't want to pay claims to people who should not be filing them. Doing so wastes money that could be spent on soccer programs to benefit kids instead of fraudulent claims. This is no different than claims validation you probably experience at your place of employment. And it's just the right thing to do!

What is an AYSO ID # anyway?

As a player you receive an AYSO ID # after completing the registration process and paying the registration fee to your local region. Volunteers receive AYSO ID #'s after completing a formal National Office approved volunteer application form AND being approved by trained local volunteers and national AYSO staff.

Where do AYSO ID #'s come from?

AYSO ID #'s are automatically generated from eAYSO, the standardized web based membership system available to all AYSO regions from the National Office.

How can I find out what my AYSO ID # is?

Ask you local regional commissioner or registrar.

Are AYSO ID #'s important?

YES YES YES --- and YES they are very important! Just as important as the number of your street address. This is the key to how your local AYSO volunteers and the national AYSO staff track your insurance eligibility.

If I have registered and paid my player fee and filled out a volunteer application form, why would I ever be told I do not have an AYSO ID#?

Usually because of timing differences from when you actually fill out the registration or application form and when the local registrar keys this information into the eAYSO database

Are there any other reasons why I wouldn't have an AYSO ID#?

There shouldn't be - but if you ever need this number and are told you can not or do not have one, or that you don't need one you should immediately call the AYSO National Office and report this.

Why do I need to put a region # on my SAI claim form and what is a region #?

Good question! AYSO is a national organization divided into approximately 1,000 local communities we call regions. Every region has an identifying regions number.

How can I find out what my region # is?

Ask you local regional commissioner or registrar.

What will happen if my SAI claim form is not filled out completely and accurately?

It will not be processed as quickly as it should be. If there is missing information the claim will be returned to you to correct or complete.

What are the claims processing agents looking for when they validate my AYSO ID#?

They are looking for 2 things. First, is the AYSO ID valid? In other words, does it exist in the eAYSO membership database? Second, if the AYSO ID# exists, is the player or volunteer registered for the season in which the injury occurs?

Why do we now need to get our certificates of insurance over the internet?

Producing certificates of insurance is a necessary but costly business process. Using eCertsOnline helped us minimize premium costs.

Will Last Year's Insurance Certificates Be Renewed?

No, unfortunately there is no blanket automatic renewal from year to year. This means that if you had previously requested and received a certificate of insurance for last year, you must now go to eCerts Online and generate a certificate for the new year.

But, the good news is that once you have set up all of your holders, when you need to renew a certificate next year, or even reproduce one you've already sent for the current year, you can just call up the existing holder in eCerts Online, check the select box and then click on the issue button and you're done!
