“Robby” Honors a Soccer Career of High School Service
AYSO is excited to be the sponsor of the Robert W. Robinson High School Long Term Service Award, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's prestigious high school coaching award.
The “Robby” is named in honor of Robert W. “Robby” Robinson, a now-retired Philadelphia area high school coach who has touched virtually every aspect of the NSCAA. An NSCAA Hall of Famer, he is a past president of the organization and received the Honor Award in 1999. Each year, the NSCAA presents this award to a person who has raised interscholastic soccer to new heights through his or her long-term dedication to the game.
The recipient will be honored at the 2012 NSCAA Awards Banquet, to be held Friday, Jan. 13, in Kansas City, Mo.
“We see the high school soccer experience as an important one for every athlete that gets that opportunity,” said Paula Berriz, AYSO National President, in announcing the partnership. “And it is the coaches who dedicate their careers to the players, school and community that make it possible. We are pleased to be able to honor their commitment and want AYSO players to aspire to play for their high school.”
AYSO is a national, community-based youth soccer organization with nearly 900 leagues and over half a million players across the U.S. Its focus is on having every kid have a great soccer and life experience and is founded on the Six Philosophies of Everyone Plays
®, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development. Founded in Torrance, Calif. In 1964, AYSO will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014.
“We are so pleased to have AYSO help make the Robby even a more meaningful award in the soccer community,” said Joe Cummings, CEO of the NSCAA. “High school soccer is such an important experience for so many players and it can make such a valuable impact on a community’s perception of soccer. We’re just excited that a major national youth soccer organization has recognized and supports the part high school soccer plays in our sport!”
Based in Kansas City, Kan., the NSCAA is the largest soccer coaches' organization in the world.
Since its founding in 1941, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America has grown to include more than 30,000 members who coach both genders at all levels of the sport. In addition to a national rankings program for colleges and high schools, NSCAA offers an extensive recognition program that presents nearly 10,000 individual awards every year
